All About Eve is one of my favourite films: full of tension, fighting, deceit and lots of smoking and drinking. But in this instance, I am talking about the last night of the year, New Year’s Eve. The night when the latter activities come to life, and we are all meant to have a lot of fun, but let’s face it, the reality sometimes is rather lacking and the former problems occur (Can we all remember the eve of the Millennium and that River of Flames that didn’t exactly happen?). Expectations are high but in reality clubs are overpriced, bars are crowded, the streets are taken over by the once-a-year zombie drinkers, and you have to queue for everything.
I had the good fortune of enjoying an evening on a boat a couple of years ago. It was quite sedate, but a lovely meal presented by Food by Dish, and the best view of the fireworks. I can really recommend the boat option but it does come at a cost, as do most New Year’s Eve Parties. Let’s face it though; budget on New Year’s Eve is not the number one priority. My main issue with this type of event is that you can feel disjointed from the party and the atmosphere of London. I wanted to be in the throng at midnight, yes I know, I wanted it all – peace and party central in two beats.
As an Event Manager of a certain age, but not so old I want to be cocooned from the mob, I know what I want on New Year’s Eve and hopefully appreciate what others are looking for too. In 2015 Merlin Events will create a classic New Year’s Eve party located right next to the action and the Coca Cola London Eye. No nasty themes, just fine food, wine, cocktails, a cool lounge DJ and a viewing area for arguably the best firework display in the world. This will be followed by bubbles at Midnight and a breakfast buffet presented soon after. It’s all about keeping it simple and enjoying time with friends and loved ones. As any planner will tell you New Year’s Eve always costs a lot – remember that is double the price. Plus, central London is on Lock down early in the day, so costs do mount up. It’s not all about profit and making a quick buck. Creating a NYE event can be costly, and prices for parties do therefore reflect this.
The venue we are using for our New Year’s Eve party is The Riverside Rooms in County Hall. They are fantastic oak-panelled rooms with one of the most iconic views in the World, especially as the clock turns to Midnight. This venue, along with a team that has over fifty years event management experience and produces in excess of 300 parties a year, means you can relax knowing that your party will happen and that all these eventualities will be factored in for you. Relax, eat, drink, and even dance on the tables: this year it’s all about Eve.
What are your plans for New Year’s Eve 2015? If they are still in the making I hope to see you at the Riverside rooms – You will find more information and can book your tickets here!
