From window dressing to one of the most successful events theming businesses in town, Jacqui Partridge owner of ‘Partridge Events’ tells us how it all began and gives us a taste of her career highlights so far.
How did Partridge Events start?
I was originally a window dresser and progressed into prop making and set dressing, and after many years of freelancing in the 90s’s for various set and party companies, I saw a gap in the market for more design led décor and theming. So decided I would take the plunge and start an event décor and design business, and the rest is history as they say!
Why is a theme important for an event?
It’s a brilliant ice breaker, guests can be instantly transported to another world or era. For instance the Gatsby theme has been a big hit, as it encompasses catering, theming, fancy dress entertainment etc and guests tend to really let their hair down more at themed events.
What is the most memorable event you have done and why?
I think working with a company who did a 6 day car rally in 6 countries for 40 multimillionaire’s, (2 years running) we went to each country ahead as they left the one before and dressed the venue and brought entertainment, before they got there. Theming a 1970’s Bulgarian marble palace in a Moulin rouge theme, that sat above a nuclear bunker, and staying in the palace which brought back flashes of the shining.
You recently themed the brand new £20million London Dungeon for the launch party, how was that?
It was great fun, fantastic being one of the first to see it in action. It wasn’t the easiest setting up in the dark, in extreme time constraints, but bumping into various Victorian characters, real rats, scary sound effects made for a very different installation. Then spotting a life size guillotine in the car park as we were de rigging made us get a move on..
