What was your first ever job?
Working in the pot wash at my parents hotel at 14 completely illegal and very hard work
How did you get from that job to your role now?
I completed an HND in event management and during my studies I worked as a trainee manager of a hotel and ran a staff agency. On completion of my studies, I came to London and I worked for brand leaders including Cunard, Imagination, Forte, Southbank Centre and Merlin Entertainments.
What does a typical day at work involve?
I see my role very much as a facilitator making sure my team have the tools to deliver clients events in a stress and non-political environment. A happy team is my number one priority as it ensures they deliver and believe in Merlin Events. We work in an open plan office and heated debates across the office have led to some of the best ideas over the years. My role is varied and can involve showing clients round our group of venues through to attending the Senior Mangers meeting for our famous London attractions.
Tell us something about your job we might not know?
I am the public Entertainment holder for Madame Tussauds, Sealife London Aquarium and London Dungeons
Tell us about your most interesting event to date.
I worked on the Launch of Vespa’s new Scooter, we hung scooters in the atrium of Imagination and some of the key guests arrived on scooters including Noel & Liam Gallagher as well as Simon Lebon & Yasmin Lebon. We had Gaggia machines and delicious Italian canapés. All the staff were selected if they had that certain look to fit with the brand. It was the attention to detail that really set this event apart. I have been fortunate to work on so many amazing launches from CK one to Vogues birthday party.
What other event company would you work for and why?
I would not like to work for another company I feel I have worked for some of the best in the industry.
If you could do any job in the world, what would it be and why?
Something in the United nations it seems to be such an ineffectual organisation it needs shaking up.
Tell us what you get up to when you are not working at Merlin Events?
I love the theatre! This month I saw Miss Saigon and next week I will see Porgy at the open air theatre. I enjoy anything that’s a bit different so Punch drunk productions and Secret Cinema really appeal. Spending time with friends is important as it is hard in London, everyone always seems so busy!
